Hello my name is Vicky, the grower, florist and hen keeper behind Blooms & Bantams, based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. I've been a very keen gardener for a fair number of years, but my dream for this business really started in 2020 when I decided - perhaps a little ambitiously at the time - to grow my own wedding flowers.
I spent the year leading up to our wedding frantically purchasing seeds, sowing, pricking out, potting on, planting out and nurturing a huge number of florist grade annual plants, along with adding in a vast number of perennials into every available space - in our already very full - garden. With very limited floristry skills, I enrolled in an online course at the amazing Tallulah Rose Flower School and began practising arranging my seasonal blooms in different ways. Throughout my journey of planning, growing, picking and practice, practice, practicing making floral displays, my love of cut flowers and arranging them grew.
As our October 2021 wedding came and went, I felt a bit flat at the thought of not needing to grow any more flowers and it was at that moment I decided to launch Blooms & Bantams. I began planning what I was going to grow for the following year and took those first nervous steps to begin advertising my posies and bouquets of my seasonal flowers and the rest - as they say - is history.
Blooms & Bantams is so named after my little bantam chicken, Lady, seen in the photo here. Lady (the ringleader, as my husband calls her) lives with a flock of chickens in our garden and they have a specific area to free range amongst the hardier shrubs and trees that can take their nibbling and dust bathing antics!
Each week from spring I will have locally grown flowers for sale that truly represent the British flowers season. From gift bouquets to more extravagant wedding flowers, I can help you add beautiful, sustainable flowers to help celebrate your events throughout the year.
